First MINISYMPOSIA on fUS IMAGING
at SfN 2024

From 5–9 October, we’ll be heading over to Chicago for Neuroscience 2024, organized by the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) – where we’ll be running the first-ever afternoon symposium dedicated to functional ultrasound.

Since 1971, the Society for Neuroscience has organized an annual meeting of neuroscientists, which has grown to become the primary forum for presenting the latest research on the brain and nervous system.

SfN regulars will know that we launched Iconeus One at the conference in Chicago back in 2019. So we’re really happy to be returning to the city this year to talk to participants about the power of fUS to revolutionize preclinical and clinical research.

And this year, we’re doing something new for us at this conference – running an afternoon symposium entirely about fUS.

 

Wide-ranging themes and diverse perspectives

Titled “Advancing brain imaging frontiers: Recent breakthroughs in functional ultrasound imaging methods for preclinical and clinical research”, the session will take place in MCP Room S10 at 14:00–16:30 on Saturday 5 October.

The symposium has three main themes, spanning the use of functional ultrasound imaging in preclinical neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neurosurgery, and beyond:

  • Exploring the experimental and diagnostic opportunities offered by fUS imaging.
  • Discovering the expanding clinical applications of fUS imaging in various fields.
  • Understanding the advantages of fUS imaging, and considering how best to implement it in research and clinical settings.

Chaired by Iconeus co-founders Mickael Tanter and Zsolt Lenkei, the symposium will feature diverse perspectives from a panel of speakers from around the globe, including two pioneering women in this field.

The contributors are:

  • Dr Mickael Tanter (ESPCI Paris; INSERM), the inventor of fUS:
    Functional ultrasound localization microscopy: Towards whole-brain functional imaging at microscopic scale
  • Dr Zsolt Lenkei (INSERM), a pioneer of fUS imaging in awake mice:
    fUS Imaging in the awake mouse brain: Cortico-subcortical dysconnectivity following opioid administration is well-correlated with analgesia
  • Dr Sarah Stankowitz (Biogen), one of the first users of fUS in industry:
    Functional ultrasound imaging in drug discovery
  • Dr Agnes Landemard (University College London), a postdoc in the leading fUS imaging lab of Prof. Matteo Carandini:
    Opto-fUSi as a window into the mechanisms of arousal-related modulation of brainwide activity
  • Richard Andersen (Caltech), a pioneer in the use of fUS for BMI applications:
    Functional ultrasound imaging for brain–machine interfaces
  • Dr Vasileios Christopoulos (University of California, Riverside), a rising star in the nascent clinical fUS imaging field:
    Unlocking the mystery of the human spinal cord using functional ultrasound imaging.
