2025 in review: A busy and productive year for Iconeus

As we move from 2025 into 2026, we thought we’d review what we’ve done over the last 12 months, and pick out some of the highlights for fUS – from a flurry of research papers to the launch of our new Iconeus One range!

A busy schedule at global conferences

In 2025, we attended seven conferences, including the following:

  • ESM: At the biennial meeting of the European Society for Microcirculation (ESM) in Szeged, Hungary, in May, our Scientific Application Specialist Pia Pelaez presented a symposium session titled “From brain functions to microvessels: Functional ultrasound and super-resolution vascular imaging with Iconeus One”.
  • Brain & Brain PET: To reach new audiences, our trusted distributor Scitech Korea attended the 32nd International Symposium on Cerebral Blood Flow, Metabolism and Function in Seoul, South Korea, in June.
  • fUS BRAIN: This regular feature of our conference calendar took place in June at the PariSanté Campus, Paris, and was organized by Physics for Medicine Paris.
  • KSBNS: The Korean Society for Brain and Neural Sciences (KSBNS) conference at Incheon, South Korea, in August, featured talks by our Application Specialist Sara Romanzi and our co-founder, Professor Mickael Tanter.
  • ECNP: In October, the 38th European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) annual congress held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, had an industry session led by our Application Specialist Hippolyte De Valmont, titled “Pioneering real-time whole brain imaging with Iconeus One”.
  • SfN: This major conference hosted by the Society for Neuroscience was held this year in November in San Diego, USA. It featured a satellite symposium dedicated to fUS imaging, and a talk by our Head of Product Development Dr Jeremy Ferrier titled “Functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI): Shaping the future of brain imaging”. Following our very successful ‘Product Theater’ session last year, we repeated this promotional session, with a presentation by Application Specialist Pia Pelaez focusing on the capabilities of Iconeus One.

Launch of the new Iconeus One range

Promoting fUS possibilities

The applications of functional ultrasound are many and varied, and in 2025 we continued our program of webinars explaining the possibilities to new (or established) audiences, including the following:

  • Studying functional connectivity with functional ultrasound imaging
  • Pioneering real-time whole brain imaging with functional ultrasound for brain disorder and neuropharmacology
  • From brain function to microvessels: Functional ultrasound and super-resolution vascular imaging.

Groundbreaking fUS publications

Citations of our fUS equipment in the scientific literature continued to be strong in 2025, and amongst these there were several highlights.

  • Work by our own staff at Iconeus, in collaboration with Physics for Medicine Paris, led to a publication in eBiomedicine in January, describing how ‘waste’ data routinely acquired during fUS studies can provide real-time information on cardiac and respiratory pulsation in rodents and humans.
  • Another paper published in eBiomedicine appeared in May, and described how researchers at the Université Claude Bernard in Lyon used Iconeus fUS equipment to show that 0.1 Hz neurovascular ‘travelling waves’ are a major contributor to cerebral hemodynamics during neuroinflammation.
  • A paper in Geroscience published in March described how fUS and ULM on Iconeus One enabled demonstration of the negative effect of paclitaxel on neurovascular response and neurovascular networks in the mouse.
  • An article in NeuroImage, published in June, described how researchers at Oklahoma University have shown that fUS correlates well to LSCI when imaging functional hyperemia in the mouse, while offering a greater depth of field.
  • And in mid-November, our own staff were again authors, this time of an article in JoVE, which described a procedure for using the microbubble-enabled ULM technique to obtain super-resolved images of the brain microvasculature in rodents. There’s a video coming soon too!

Amongst others, papers in JoVE, Neuroimage and eBiomedicine outlined research carried out using Iconeus’ fUS equipment in 2025.
