Making the case for fUS at AD/PD

: Our first visit to AD/PD in Lisbon this year was an opportunity to describe the benefits of fUS to a new audience.

In March, we headed to Lisbon for one of the foremost events for those involved in neurological disorders – the International Conference on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Diseases (AD/PD).

The need to find ways to treat neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease is the driving force behind much neuroscience research, whether preclinical or clinical. With this in mind, in March 2024 we attended AD/PD in Lisbon, Portugal, with the aim of starting new conversations about how functional ultrasound (fUS) might be able to help.

It was the first time we have attended this event, and it was very interesting to be present at a neuroscience conference with a more clinical perspective. We had quite a few visitors to our booth, and several very worthwhile discussions with researchers on our imaging technologies could contribute to their research. Many of those at the event were healthcare professionals, and although we’re at the early stages of moving into the clinical sphere, it was nevertheless important for us to gain visibility in this large community.

Iconeus - fUS talk during AD/PD
Our Head of Product Development, Jeremy Ferrier, takes the stand during the ‘Product Theater’ at AD/PD 2024.
This was also the first time we have held a ‘Product Theater’ event, during which our colleague Jeremy Ferrier introduced the Iconeus One system to an audience assembled in the middle of the exhibition hall.

Being a new conference for us, and with so much going on at AD/PD, we did not have particular expectations about how many people would attend. Nevertheless, we were pleasantly surprised by the success of this event, and we think it went a good way towards raising the profile of fUS amongst an audience for whom fMRI is the default brain-imaging technology.

Overall, it was a productive first visit to a new forum… and following this experience, we can see that as our technology proceeds further towards the clinic, AD/PD will be a conference that we’ll keep on coming back to!

Interested in how fUS could help your research into neurodegenerative disorders? We’d love to hear from you.
